Terms and house rules
Version 2026-10-27
1. What Stoep is
Stoep is a noticeboard where residents of the estate list things for sale or to give away. Stoep isn't a shop and isn't part of any sale: buyers and sellers agree on price, payment and collection between themselves, outside Stoep. Stoep is independent and not affiliated with any estate, body corporate or property developer, or with WhatsApp.
2. Who can join
You must be 18 or older and live on the estate. One account per person. Use your own mobile number, the one you use on WhatsApp. If you move out, delete your account. Keep your password to yourself, and don't stay signed in on a phone or computer you share.
3. Listing rules
Only list items you own and are allowed to sell, described honestly, including any faults you know about, with your own photos. Mark items reserved or sold when they are. Don't put phone numbers, unit numbers or addresses in listings; buyers contact you through the WhatsApp button.
“Paste from WhatsApp” fills in a listing for you automatically from your own post. It can get things wrong, so check every field before you publish. You're responsible for what your listing says.
4. Not allowed on Stoep
- Services, jobs and lessons
- Rentals, sublets and parking bays
- Animals and pets
- Estate access devices: gate remotes, tags, access cards and keys
- Weapons, ammunition, pepper spray and replicas
- Medicines, prescription items, drugs and drug paraphernalia
- Alcohol, tobacco and vapes
- Home-made or perishable food
- Stolen, counterfeit or recalled goods
- Adult content
- Gift cards, vouchers, tickets for resale above face value, raffles, fundraisers, MLM schemes, crypto and other financial products
- Photos of other people without their permission
- “Wanted” posts: list only things you’re selling or giving away
- Anything else that’s illegal to sell or own in South Africa
5. Being a good neighbour
Be honest and polite. Don't use numbers you see on Stoep for anything except the listing you're asking about. No spam, no reposting the same item, no business stock.
6. Staying safe
- Meet in a common area of the estate, in daylight if you can.
- Inspect the item before you pay.
- Selling? Wait until an EFT actually shows in your account. A screenshot or emailed proof of payment isn't proof.
- Never pay a deposit to someone you haven't met, and never share one-time PINs, banking codes or WhatsApp verification codes.
- Be wary of anyone who can't meet in person and offers a courier or a relative to collect.
7. Reports and removal
Anyone can report a listing or tell us someone no longer lives here. Admins can hide or remove listings, and suspend or remove members who break these rules or have moved out. If you think we got it wrong, email hello@inferenceworks.co.za.
Not a member? If something on Stoep uses your photo, your work or your personal details without permission, or is unlawful, email hello@inferenceworks.co.za with the link and what's wrong, and we'll look at it quickly.
8. Your content
You keep ownership of your listings and photos, and you confirm you have the right to post them. You let Stoep store them, make resized copies and show them to approved residents until you delete them. If you leave “Show a preview” on for a listing, you also let anyone with its link see the title, price and first photo.
9. Deals between residents
Every sale or giveaway is between the buyer and the seller. Stoep isn't a party to it, doesn't handle money and doesn't check items, sellers or buyers. Sort out any problem with the other person directly.
10. No guarantees
Please read this carefully. Stoep is a free community service, provided as is and without any guarantee that it will always be available or free of errors. As far as the law allows, we're not responsible for any loss or harm from items, payments, meetings or deals between residents, or from using Stoep. Nothing in these terms limits a right you have, or our responsibility, where the law doesn't allow that, including for our gross negligence or deliberate wrongdoing.
11. Leaving, or Stoep closing
You can delete your account at any time from your Account page. We may change, pause or close Stoep. If we close it, we'll tell members first where we can, and delete everyone's information as the privacy notice describes.
12. Changes and contact
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we'll ask you to accept again. Stoep is run by Inference Works (Pty) Ltd, a private company registered in South Africa (registration number 2026/860827/07). Contact: hello@inferenceworks.co.za. These terms are governed by South African law. See also the privacy notice.
